Consumer price index (INS)

The monthly series of the consumer price index published by the National Institute of Statistics.

The values are monthly changes, not levels: 100.58 means +0.58% against the previous month. The variatie_procent field gives the same figure as a percentage, so that it is not read as an index with a base. For the cumulated change over a period, use /calcul/indexare.

How it behaves

  • The monthly CPI series published by the Romanian National Institute of Statistics, by category.
  • The values are monthly CHANGES, not levels: 100.58 means +0.58% against the previous month. The variatie_procent field gives the same figure as a percentage, so it is not read as a fixed-base index. data.natura declares it explicitly.
  • For the cumulative change over a period use /calcul/indexare: it is the PRODUCT of the monthly factors, not the difference between two values. The difference between two values in this series has no meaning at all.
  • The categories: total (the full basket), alimentare, nealimentare, servicii.
  • The data comes from INS TEMPO through the Ins module, as a materialised view — a single source of truth, refreshed automatically on every import.
  • It is not directly comparable with HICP: different baskets and methodologies. For December 2022, HICP gives 14.14% and CPI 16.37%.

meta.fara_date data is null and this says why. No CPI data in the database. in_afara_acoperirii.
meta.fara_date_cod The short, STABLE word for the reason, for clients that branch on it in code: fara_date is prose and may be rephrased, this is not.

All errors share the same shape. eroare.cod is stable and is the value you should branch on in code — not the text in mesaj, which may change.
