NBR reference rate

The monetary policy interest rate in force at a date — the reference rate in art. 3(4) of Government Ordinance 13/2011. The series is a list of DECISIONS, not a value per day: the rate decided holds until the next decision, and the response says from which day the one returned has been in force.

Query parameters

NameTypeDescriptionAccepted values
dataoptional string | null Optional, YYYY-MM-DD. Defaults to the current day. Cannot be in the future and cannot precede 2011-09-01. e.g. 2024-06-15e.g. 2020-06-15

How it behaves

  • The monetary policy rate in force on a date — the reference rate under Government Ordinance 13/2011, art. 3(4).
  • The series is a list of DECISIONS, not a value per day. A rate set by NBR holds until the next decision, so the value on a date is the last preceding decision. The response states the day it took effect (in_vigoare_din), making clear it is not a daily quote.
  • The statutory interest rates derive from it, but with different anchoring rules across the two regimes — see /dobanda-legala/civila and /dobanda-legala/profesionisti.
  • Dates before 2011-09-01 are refused. Until then the NBR reference rate was the official discount rate, a distinct series that differs from the monetary policy rate in 56 of 115 shared months. The policy rate is not extrapolated backwards: the result would be plausible and wrong.

What it is for

  • Computing statutory default interest, which starts from the reference rate.
  • Underpinning a contractual interest clause.
  • Checking the rate in force on a due date.

Response structure

FieldTypeDescription
data.la_data string The date the returned values are valid on.
data.valoare string The rate in percent per annum, two decimals, as a string.
data.in_vigoare_din string The date of the NBR decision from which the returned rate is in force.
data.unitate string The unit of the values. Read it before plotting or adding them up.
meta.sursa string The official source the data comes from, with its licence where one is required.
meta.temei string The legal basis for the values or for the way they are computed.
meta.nota string A note on how to read the response — a pitfall, a convention or a limit of the source.

Error codes

CodeSlugWhen it occurs
401neautentificatToken missing, invalid, expired or revoked.
403feature_indisponibilThe current plan does not include the feature the route depends on.
404negasitalt_regim_juridic for dates before 2011-09-01; negasit if no applicable decision exists.
422validareMalformed or future date.
429cota_depasitaThe plan's monthly quota has been exceeded (see Retry-After).

All errors share the same shape. eroare.cod is stable and is the value you should branch on in code — not the text in mesaj, which may change.
